What's your name and role on the team?

My name is Lacey Larramore and I am the Resource Liaison for Marion County Solid Waste.

What inspired you to join the peer support team?

What inspired me to join the peer support: I was inspired to join the peer support team because I know how valuable it is to have someone who listens without judgment. During a challenging time in my life, a peer supporter made a huge difference simply by being there and understanding. That experience made me realize how powerful support from someone who truly 'gets it' can be. I want to offer that same kind of care to others-to be someone they can turn to, especially when they feel isolated or overwhelmed.

What's your background or experience with peer support?

My experience with peer support has mostly come from informal settings, where l've naturally taken on a supportive role among friends, family or teammates. I've often found myself being the person people come to when they're feeling overwhelmed or just need someone to talk to. Through these experiences, I've learned how to actively listen, respond with empathy, and offer guidance or reassurance when appropriate.

These moments made me realize how meaningful peer support can be, and they've motivated me to pursue it in a more formal way.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work, I really enjoy staying active— whether it's hiking, practicing yoga, or just going for a run. I also love reading, especially books that challenge me to think about the world in new ways. When I need to unwind, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, trying out new recipes, or just exploring the outdoors. It helps me recharge and stay balanced.

What's one piece of advice or encouragement you'd share with someone seeking support?

One piece of advice I'd share is that reaching out for support is a strength, not a weakness. It takes courage to be vulnerable, and no one should ever feel like they have to go through hard times alone. You deserve to be heard and supported, and there are people-like peer supporters-who truly want to help and walk alongside you.

You're not a burden; you're human.

I'd remind them that it's okay to not have everything figured out and that seeking support is a brave and healthy step forward. No matter what they're going through, they're not alone— and there's always someone willing to listen and help without judgment. Sometimes just talking to someone can bring a lot more relief than we expect.
